What to do when you’ve lost your edge
You know how it goes with running your own business, right? Some days you’re totally in the zone, feeling like you’re on top of the world. Nothing can touch you, and you’re just buzzing with ideas and energy.
But then, there are those other days. Days when things don’t go quite as planned or maybe you don’t hit a goal you’d set for yourself. Heck, maybe life just threw you a curveball. I’ve been there, too. There were a few times this year when I was just not feeling like my usual happy-go-lucky self.
If you’re in the same boat, first off, don’t panic. It happens to the best of us! Here’s a little checklist to see if you might have lost a bit of your spark:
- You’re doubting yourself more than usual.
- You’re not as excited about your business as you used to be.
- You don’t feel like getting stuff done, even though you know it’s important.
- You feel like you’re dropping the ball.
- Unexpected things are coming up and throwing you off.
- You feel like you’re letting people down.
Relate to any of those? I hear you.. But don’t worry, you don’t have to stay stuck. Here’s a simple, four-step game plan I use when I need to get back in the groove:
Take a look at the big picture.
In my Powerhouse Community, we call this the ‘Big Picture Plan.’ What’s your dream right now? Remember, it’s never too late to hit the reset button. Ask yourself:
- If today was Day 1 of a brand-new year, what would you want to achieve by the time you hit Day 365?
- Despite everything that’s happened so far, what do you want to be cheering about when this year wraps up?
Check who is in your ear.
Who are you hanging out with? Who are you listening to? What books are you reading? What podcasts are you tuning into? Whenever I need a little motivation, I pop in some inspiring podcasts. Works like a charm every time.
Nail down your game plan.
Once you’ve got your goal in mind (based on your ‘Big Picture Plan’), figure out how you’re going to get there. That’s where having a coach or a supportive community comes in handy – you can bounce ideas off them and get solid advice on your next move.
Commit to the next step.
Make a pact with yourself to take the next step in your plan. Put a date and time to it and do whatever it takes to stick to it.
Remember, just because you’ve hit a bump in the road doesn’t mean you’re off track. Keep these steps in mind, shake off the setback, and get back to doing what you do best – running your amazing business. You’ve got this!
Pro Tip
Practice Positive Affirmations: Start each day by stating out loud a positive affirmation or mantra that resonates with you and your goals.
This could be as simple as, “I am capable and ready to tackle the challenges of the day,” or something more specific to your current objectives.
According to a study published in the Journal of Clinical Psychology, 94% of people who used affirmations reported that they found them valuable, with over a third stating that affirmations helped them in dealing with a variety of issues, including business-related stress and goal achievement. By repeating these affirmations, you’re training your brain to believe in your capabilities and reinforcing a positive mindset.
Remember, entrepreneurship is as much a mental game as it is about strategy and execution.
Taking care of your mind is crucial for long-term success.
