There was so much happening over the last few days in the world, and I have a heavy heart for George Floyd, his family and loved ones, and for everyone who is feeling anger and sadness right now.
Admittedly, I’ve had a fear of not knowing the “right” thing to say, and therefore not saying anything at all.
I realize that being silent is the worst thing I can do. So instead of being in my fear, I’m going to let go of “getting it right,” and simply speak from my heart.
I feel vulnerable saying that I have a lot to learn about how others are affected by all of this, so I can become a part of the solution versus being silent.
Here are some of the things I’m committed to doing as I navigate what is happening. I’m sharing in case any of this helps you as you also formulate your course of action.
1. I’m reaching out to African American friends, colleagues, and clients
to engage in dialogue.
I’m not an expert in this area so I’m taking responsibility to get informed as an ally and learn about what I can do in my messaging, business, and how I’m showing up to support from the People of Color in my world who have directly invited me to reach out to them.
Recommendation: Join the new Intimacy of Race group started by my friend and client Eva Medilek. This is a safe space for allies of people of color to learn how to show at home, in business, and in the world.

2. I’m consuming resources that have been recommended to me.
One of those resources is the documentary “13th” on Netflix that I’ll be watching by the end of the weekend.
I’ve also been pointed towards this extensive #blacklivesmatter resource list. I do not manage this list, and transparently I just started to work my way through it.
Now, as a business coach, I do automatically ask myself how this relates to business. Should you sell right now? Or not?
The answer is not straightforward. What is important during a time like this is to do what feels aligned with you. Do what you feel clear about doing when you check in with your heart.
If that looks like taking a pause, go for it.
If that looks like selling, go ahead.
If you are selling, do be mindful of what is happening in the world. This means making tweaks to your messaging to use your voice and take a stand. Don’t ignore the current climate in your marketing; that won’t work.
xoxo
