When I first started my business, I was juggling two businesses. I also had a bunch of side projects, and I felt like even though I was loving everything I was doing, I wasn’t going the distance with any of it.
There was no focus or clarity. In fact, the most painful thing that I would hear from people was “Amy, I see you doing all these cool things, but can you tell me what is it exactly that you do?”
My answer was always the same… ”Ummmm, why don’t you tell me what it is you’re looking for, and I can see if I can help you.”
At the time I had my current business coaching entrepreneurs. I also co-owned a business with my friend, Katie, hosting transformational programs for women. On top of all that I was an occasional weekend DJ and emcee for weddings and private events. I sold sponsorships for Metropolitan Fashion Week. I even taught Zumba once a week!
You get the picture. I was all over the place, and the problem was that I was not focused. I was unclear, and I was feeling very stuck.
When I look back, I can only send my former self some massive love. It now seems so clear to me why I was struggling, and I can also see exactly what I did to move out of that place.
That’s what I’m sharing with you today. If you are feeling stuck right now in your business, here are three steps you can take to get unstuck!
1: Connect and recommit to your vision.
I always recommend you come back to your vision first. This is the place to start even if you’ve talked about or thought about or journaled about your vision many, many times.
Think about your vision in the area you feel stuck in. How do you want this area to look? How do you want to feel in this area?
Bring it back to the vision and align with it deeply.
Why is it important to you? So anything that you can think about reconnecting with and recommit to your vision.
2: Get support!
In the past, I never asked for support. I worried about bothering or burdening other people. And I’m happy to report I no longer feel this way. I love asking for support and it always helps me be unstuck much faster.
Think about who is someone in your life, whether it’s a coach, a colleague, or even a friend or family member. Think of someone in your life that you know, love and trust that can help you in the very area you’re feeling stuck.
Reach out to them and say “Hey, I’m finding myself in this place where I’m stuck and I could really use your support. Do you have a little time to chat today?”
If you’re feeling resistance towards taking this step, know it’s human nature to want to help people and be there for people.
Think of someone in your realm that you can ask for support and make a decision today to actually contact them. The sooner the better so you don’t keep swirling in the stuck-ness.
3: Practice generosity.
I’ve found that when I am stuck I get into this mode where I put blinders on and I’m engulfed in my own world, focusing on my own needs and my own business.
I’m constricting myself to my own little space where I’m actually being selfish, focusing in, and not thinking about how I can help others.
This may seem counter-intuitive, but when your in that space of focusing on yourself, I urge you to look up for a moment. See who’s out there in the world that you can help. Then choose to actually help them.
Let it be simple. If somebody pops up in your head or there’s a person who’s been on your mind for a while, call them and see how they’re doing and see what they’re up to in this world. It’s amazing.
Whenever I’ve gotten over myself and called that person and said, “Hey, you keep popping up in my mind and I want to see how you’re doing!” The person on the other side of the line usually says, “Oh my gosh, I so needed to talk to somebody today.” Or “I’ve been thinking about you too, and I’ve been wanting to connect and I feel bad that it’s been a while.”
Whatever it looks like, think about how you can be generous in this world. Is there someone out there who is where you were a year, or two years, or three years ago and wants what you have?
They want to be where you are in your journey. Reach out to them and take them under your wing and say, “Hey, I was just thinking about you. I remember what it was like to be where you are now and I would love to help you out.”
